BH6 The Tender Care of "Jesus' Little Lambs" - One Mother's Wisdom from the 1960's
Hello, Beautiful Homemakers!
Today we are reading Chapter 6 of Charlene Johnson's book, Beautiful Homemaking.
This chapter is story after story after story!!!
We talk about self-fulfilling prophecies and spouse-fulfilling prophecies, and I highly recommend the books All About Raising Children by Helen Andelin (the original, not the edited and revised new one),
and The Empowered Wife by Laura Doyle.
I attended Laura Doyle's Adored Wives Weekend
and it was such fun! So inspiring! I met such amazing women who want storybook marriages and "happily ever after's." They are committed to having the best marriage they possibly can! She helps brilliant, over-achieving women get out of anger and overwhelm and embrace the gift of her husband's care...he's fully able if you let go of the Superior Wife Syndrome we discussed when we read the original Fascinating Womanhood pamphlets and Secrets of Fascinating Womanhood!
Laura's original book is The Surrendered Wife (the 25th anniversary edition is only $3 on Kindle right now). I read the original book 23 years ago and can still recommend it, but if you only get one, then get The Empowered Wife, revised and updated edition.
You can also listen to both on Audible, and the original Empowered book can be read to you on Hoopla for free with your library card.
In the video I talk about a woman I met at AWW, named Cameron, who was told by her parents that she was "difficult to live with." That became her self-fulfilling prophecy and at one point her husband packed his bags and was ready to leave the country. I found her video interview with Laura, here:
Her husband later told his side of the story as well. His story is here:
Cameron is now a Relationship Coach. If you want a better marriage, then please read or listen to The Empowered Wife.
But if your husband has already packed his bags and is threatening to leave, then it is worth the money to join RHW - Ridiculously Happy Wives for one month - longer if you have the money - and get a private coach if you need it to win your husband back. Isn't he worth it? But even one month will make a difference in your marriage!
Note: While Laura's podcasts on YT are informative, they do not teach you in depth the 6 intimacy skills you need that the book goes into, and that RHW and the coaching focuses on. So you cannot rely solely on listening to interviews to get you through - you need to learn and implement the skills!

Compare the beautiful mothering in Beautiful Homemaking to the horrific Kate Gosselin from Kate + 8, as told in her son Collin's new book, In the Shadow of Eight. Personally, I'm listening to it on this channel:
Only Jesus will be able to heal Collin's heart after the shocking amount of abuse he went through at his mother's hands.

One of my favorite short stories is in chapter 6 in today's video, about a father going to a tavern, until he realizes his young son is following him.
Another short story in this chapter also appears in a Patricia St. John book, though I cannot find the book to tell you the title, and I am unsure if Patricia is the original author or not. It's the story about the man on the train.
The book ends with a story-lesson made up by Charlene for her children Raymie and Rickie, and closes with a beautiful prayer for children:
Dear Father, whom I cannot see,
Smile down from heaven on little me.
Let angels through the darkness spread
Their holy wings around my bed,
And keep me safe, because I am
My loving Shepherd's little lamb.
In Jesus' name, Amen
The Chapter 7 coming in November is called "Your Home - Your Paradise!"
May God bless you and your little lambs, no matter how grown up they are!
Love,
Janine
