Is this all there is?
If you have been feeling a lonely emptiness, that something isn't quite right, or if you've been wondering, "Is this all there is?"...
If you've had great success in the world but still feel like you are missing the mark...
If you have been feeling a little nudge that you need to get closer to the Lord Jesus...
Or if you know you should be going to church but really don't want to because you haven't found a place you enjoyed being a part of...
I would like to introduce you to Christ's brother and sisterhood. You don't place membership.
Christ adds you to His church (Acts 2:47) when you choose to give your life to Him by believing in Him, repenting of your sins, calling on His name, and being baptized into Him (Romans 6:1-11).
Following Jesus is not a "one and done." It is a life-long fellowship with Him. He says we are to "abide with Him."
- He says we are to worship Him and take the Lord's Supper in remembrance of Him (1 Cor. 11:20-26) when you gather with other believers. The Bible shows us that this was done every Sunday, when the new believers in Christ gathered to worship Him. (1 Cor 16:2)
- He says we are to sing and make melodies in our hearts to Him! Science tells us that singing heals us! Who better to sing to than God Himself? Praising Him for His goodness! (Eph 5:19)
- He says we are to pray to God the Father through His name! (John 14:13-14) Jesus is our High Priest (Heb 4:14-16)
- He says we are to gather together and listen to God's word (our sole authority - not man's traditions). Meeting weekly with other believers strengthens us! (Heb 10:25) "The joy of the Lord is our strength." (Neh 8:10)
- He says we are to give to the Saints who need our help, as well as to the poor and afflicted. (1 Cor 16:2)
- He says we are to go to all the nations making disciples, baptizing them, and teaching them what Jesus said to do: And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Are you attending a church that does all of the above?
No matter your past, no matter what is going on in the present, you can come to Jesus for healing and forgiveness.
Ministers are always available at the Churches of Christ to help lead you to Jesus to receive that forgiveness and healing. They will show you the scriptures that apply to your particular situation right from your own Bible. You will feel welcomed, comfortable, and can find peace for your heart, mind, and soul!
If this is has been on your heart, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
You can search for "churches of Christ near me" or go to church-of-christ.org.
[Remember that "UCC" or "United churches of Christ" is not the church I am talking about. Neither is the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" (aka mormons).]
The churches of Christ were founded on a Scriptural foundation with the Scriptural builder - Christ Himself. Only He can add you to His church. There is no "placing membership" or voting to be let into the church. There's no voting or testing for baptism. Baptism is never forbidden or cast aside until a "Baptism Sunday" rolls around.
The churches of Christ are Scriptural in name, and organization. There is no earthly headquarters, no pope, no presbytery, no king but Jesus. Elders and deacons lead their own local gathering of believers - they are self-governed using only the Bible as their guide. They are an independent body not under the control of any hierarchy. They are undenominational (they are not under any church denomination).
A "simple" church, using only the Bible as its authority (sola scriptura), and having no creeds, confessions of faith, or church manuals. Churches of Christ believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, a book to be "rightly divided." We are under the Christian dispensation (not the patriarchal nor Jewish dispensation), therefore we must obey Christ and what He said to do, as written in the Bible.
Churches of Christ are scriptural in doing missionary work, observing the Lord's Supper, and using music in worship.
Churches of Christ answer the question "What must I do to be saved?" using only the Scriptures, and teach that man is saved by faith and the blood of Christ, that a change of heart is indispensable to a person's salvation, that a person's baptism must be Scriptural, that a child of God can so sin as to be eternally lost, and that infants are born pure and innocent, rather than depraved.
The Bible tells us that:
- Jesus Christ came to save us (John 3:17)
- He died for our sins (I Cor 15:3)
- Jesus was raised from the dead to life for our justification (Rom 4:25)
- We have redemption through the blood of Christ (Eph 1:7)
- Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6)
- Those who repent shall not perish (Luke 13:3)
- Those who deny Christ shall be denied before the Father (Matt 10:33)
- Baptism saves (I Peter 3:20-21)
- People must be born again to see the kingdom of God (John 3:5)
- Christ will render vengeance to people who do not obey the gospel (2 Thess 1:8)
- One must be converted to enter into the kingdom of heaven (Matt 18:3)
- We must know the truth to become free (John 8:32)
- Those who do not love the truth will perish (2 Thess 2:10)
- Apart from Christ man can do nothing (John 15:5)
- There is salvation in no other name but Christ Jesus (Acts 4:12)
- Christ is the savior of the body (Eph 5:23)
- Cornelius wasn't saved until he obeyed (Acts 11:14).
- All of this still applies today.
- Have you obeyed the Gospel (Rom 6)?
Because I actually care about you and your eternal soul!
Hugs and love,
Janine
