BH1 - Chapter 1 of "Beautiful Homemaking" by Charlene Johnson

Hello, Beautiful Homemakers!

I'm sharing the book that I named my channel after.  Beautiful Homemaking was published in 1961 by Charlene Johnson, when she was 27 years old.

The illustrations and the Foreword were by her husband, Raymond W. Johnson.

Whenever she quotes Scripture, it will be from the Revised Standard Version of 1946 and 1952.

There are 10 chapters:

  1. Introduction
  2. Have a Cup of Coffee, Mother?
  3. Beautiful Homemaking
  4. Beautiful You
  5. Crown Your Husband!
  6. The Tender Care of "Jesus' Little Lambs"
  7. Your Home - Your Paradise!
  8. Open the Door!
  9. How Big Is Your World?
  10. Your God and You

After sharing both flaps, the foreword, dedication, table of contents, a poem, and Chapter 1: Introduction, I tell you a story of a mother and daughter I met some time ago, and how they exemplified the old saying, "beauty is, as beauty does."

I think her book is really going to encourage you!

But, you know, being a Christian is not a self-improvement course.

It’s a whole new way of life, with Christ as King of our life. We surrender our wants and choices to what He wants for our life.  We give Him the keys, and we pray for help in making choices that are in accordance with His Will.

2nd Corinthians 5:17 says that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

Galatians 2:19-20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT: Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Romans 12:2 Simple English Bible:  Don’t act like people of this world. Instead, be changed inside by letting your mind be made new again.  Then you can determine what is good, pleasing, and perfect – what God wants.

New people think in a new way.  In the book of Isaiah God told His people to “forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”  God doesn’t want us bound to the past – He wants us looking to Him daily to see the wonderful things He is going to do with us right now – today!

And it’s my hope that this little book will encourage you on that path.

But, my dears, here is a warning:  Devotionals and other books of encouragement cannot replace the Bible.  While this book isn’t candy, it is baby food.  You need to be fed daily on God’s Word.  Otherwise, you will starve spiritually, and you may even be led astray... deceived.  You MUST know what is in God's Word!

Did you know that you can read the entire NT is only 30 days?!  I challenge you to do it!

  1. Matthew 1-9
  2. Matthew 10-16
  3. Matthew 17-24
  4. Matthew 25 - Mark 2
  5. Mark 3-9
  6. Mark 10-16
  7. Luke 1-6
  8. Luke 7-11
  9. Luke 12-18
  10. Luke 19-24
  11. John 1-6
  12. John 7-13
  13. John 14-21
  14. Acts 1-7
  15. Acts 8-14
  16. Acts 15-20
  17. Acts 21-28
  18. Romans 1-8
  19. Romans 9 - 1 Corinthians 4

Once you've done this several times, then you may want to go start with the book of Acts (since most people know Matthew - John really well) and go through it slowly with a preacher, such as on World Video Bible School . org (WVBS.org).

Pray for help in understanding the hard parts!

May God bless you as you feed on His Word,

Janine

It looks like the illustration on the cover of this book is the author herself!
